Vixen's Blog

Hi there, my name is Vixen.

I am 18 months old and I have lived here all my life, I did have a little trip over to another centre for 6 months just in case my new family lived there but they didn't so here I am back in York hoping it's second time lucky.

I grew up here with my brothers and sisters but they have all found their forever homes with families who love them. I know I am loved here by my aunties and uncles but it's not the same and I do feel sad from time to time that no one thinks I am good enough to join their family.

The world is a very scary world when you have lived your entire life in the shelter of an animal home so I'm rather nervous of the things in a real home like the talking box that you humans watch and the machine that makes your clothes go round and come out without any dog hairs on but I know that if you are there to guide me, I will get used to the spinning machine and the talking box.

I went on a 3 hour walk the other day with a dog walker, Ray. I like him very much, he always has lots of treats for me and tells me how well I'm doing. I overheard him tell my Aunties that I'm very well behaved when I was out. I know my aunties say I will benefit from extra training once in a home as I'm still a big puppy at heart.

I like other dogs too so I could possibly live with one if they like me. I don't mind cats either but they would need to be rather confident so that they don't get scared of me. As I am still very nervous and still learning, my family here think it would be best to live in a home with children over the age of 16.

Can you find a place in your heart for a big puppy who is just looking to have a place to call home for the very first time in my life? You won't regret it, I will pay you back with love and kisses forever and a day.

Welcome to the Cat House!

As kitten season starts to come to an end, we are slowly starting to rehome more of our adult cats. A couple of our long stay boys found their forever home in the past few weeks but we still have so many that are patiently waiting.

So have you been thinking about adopting a cat? Or know someone who is? Keep reading and meet our current residents who are hoping today is their day...

Meet Moodles...

"I am a young handsome boy in need of a home where I can have more space to play and lots of interesting things to do. Even with my own toys I do get bored of my own company. I'd love a garden away from a busy road as I'm not used to traffic. My aunties say I would suit an adult only home as I'm not really comfortable with the young people. I have lived with other furry creatures that make odd barking sounds, I don't mind them so could probably live with one but as for cats, I'm rather picky with who I associate with. Some I like, some I don't."

Our next longest stays are Toby and Jess...

"Hi, Toby here. I'm here to tell you a little about us. We are 5 years old and came from a lovely home but sadly we made our owner's little one sneeze ALOT so we are looking for a home where we don't make our family sneeze. Me and my sister Jess love to be outside so would very much like a garden to call our own and apparently they are good for exercising in which our aunties say will be good for us as we are a little on the chunky side. Jess is a little nervous but is starting to get more confident and secretly loves a fuss just as much as me. Noone ever asks about us which makes us rather sad. Could you be the one to make us a very happy pair?"

Here's Robbie...

"I am around 4 years old and was found as a stray. I am a confident and very friendly boy who can be very chatty and a little cheeky when the mood takes me. I would be lots of fun and like attention but I would be better suited to a family with no young children. I love to play outside, to run and climb so could you have a forever home and a garden that can be my own personal playground?"

Meet Wurzel...

"Pleasure to meet you. I'm Wurzel and I was a tomcat stray until a kind lady gave me a home. Sadly me and her cats didn't see eye to eye so here I am hoping for a forever home. I wasn't keen on people when I first arrived here, they kind of smell funny but turns out they are pretty good. They have treats for me and being stroked has now become a regular pastime of mine. I can already use a cat flap and I'm very clean in a house. Auntie Geraldine let me flat sit with her the other night and she said I was very well-behaved. I love being out in the fresh air but I also love a good sofa to curl up on. Do you have a spare spot on your sofa for me?"

Here's Hattie...

"Hello, I'm Hattie. After nurturing my kittens, it's time for me to have some fun. My kittens have flown the nest and found their forever home so now I would love to be part of a family that can play with me and give me some cuddles. I'm a friendly and affecionate girl who just needs someone to give me a chance to show myself off."

The very lovely Annie and Abby...

"Did you know that two cats are better than one? You didn't?! Well you get double the fun, double the love and we have lots of love to give. Noone has asked about us recently so we just spend our time lazing in sunshine and playing with the socialisers who come to visit every day. We are both friendly, loving cats who would love someone to pick us."

The very sweet Lana and Lois...

" We were abandoned in a box near the Animal home but we managed to get out of the horrid confined space. Lana made it to the home and was taken in but I got scared and hid in the bushes until our new aunties found me. We weren't in good condition when we first arrived in June but look at us now, pretty good eh? Now we are back to full health, we love to play and then curl up together in the evenings. All we hope for now is a home where we can feel safe, loved and to never be abandoned again."

Here's cheeky Sarah...

"Are you coming to see me? I do hope so because I adore people and love to be around them. I like to climb all over people and sit on their shoulders, I am a bit of a chatty girl too. I would be great company for someone but may be best with older children as I sometimes play nibble. I like most of the other cats here too so I may enjoy living with another cat. Please come and see me, I'd love to say hello."

Charley and Amelia...

"We are searching for our new home as our owner was no longer able to care for us. We are a devoted mum and daughter, always together. Sometimes we cuddle up together, other times we are chasing each other about outside. We love playing outside and my mum Charley can climb very high up the fence. We have previously lived with children and love people lots. We enjoy being cuddled when we are not trying to sit on shoulders and rub faces with you."

 Sheba...

Sheba asked me to tell you about her as she is a very nervous girl and got a little scared. She is an adult cat who was found as a stray. She enjoys being stroked but is a little unsure about being picked up. She is looking for a home with older children or an adult home where she will be allowed the time she needs to settle in and gradually gain confidence.

Leela...

"The name is Leela, nice to meet you. I'm still a little shy at the minute so please bear with me if you come to say hello. As you can see I only have one eye but it doesn't bother me, it makes me unique and I get around perfectly well. Do you have a space for a shy, unique girl in your home?"

Guiness...

"Like many of my neighbours I'm a little shell-shocked at ended up in the animal home but I'm slowly coming around. I'm still a rather nervous and would be better in an adult only home. I just need someone who will give me the time I need to come out of my shell"

Betty...

Betty is a very scared girl who has been in a foster home for a couple of months and is now in the cattery hoping for someone to come along who understands that the world and people are very scary to her. Betty needs to be a housecat and would like someone who can be very patient whilst she learns to trust you and come around to the idea that people are not scary.

Meg and Baxter...

"I'm Meg. I came in with Baxter but though we tolerate each other, we aren't very happy together like some of the other couples are. Baxter is rather more forward than I am so I think it's just our personalities really aren't suited. We are both looking for separate homes where Baxter can be prince of the castle and I can have some peace and quiet"

 Summer...

"I'm one of mums here and my kittens have all finally gone! I do love the peace and quiet now. I'm quite nervous when you first meet me but once I know you, we can play until our hearts content. Do you have time to get to know me?"

 Earl...

"I'm told I'm quite the handsome fella, I don't know about that but I am a friendly chap. I have got used to living here in my comfortable bed and the good food I get but I would love a home and family to call my own. I can be a little shy at first but I love being stroked and once I know you I enjoy cuddles as well. A quiet home would suit me best as it may take me a while to settle in but I will soon make up for this with lots of cuddles."

 Felix...

"The name's Felix, like the advert but better. I came in with Sheba but we didn't get on very well together so we have parted ways and now have our own beds. I can stretch out and move the bedding around as much as I like and no one complains, apart from my aunties who have to make my bed several times a day of course. I'm looking for a home with no young children because although I'm very friendly, I really hate being picked up. I do like being stroked though so could you find space in your house for a black cat like me?"

There is also Susie and Mistu who are looking for their forever homes. We've not had chance to photograph them yet but will update as soon as we do. Both came in with their kittens and are now looking for individual homes where they can get the love and affection they deserve after rearing their babies so well.

So, have you seen the newest member of your family? Why not come and meet them. The Cat house is full and waiting for your visit.

Hi there,
